In spite of a 70% chance of rain in
the forecast, over 260 racers showed
up for the PINKS All Out Qualifier
on Saturday, May 2nd. Their
diligence was greatly rewarded with
participation in one of the most
exciting racer events ever at MIR!
We even did a post on our website
and an update on Dragline indicating
that we would not be rescheduling
the event due to rain. We further
added that all 80 spots would be
awarded that weekend, even if it
required a “Paper, Rock, Scissors”
contest!
The MIR staff pushed the event with
all they had, getting the event down
to winners in each class just as the
rains came. All 80 spots were
officially awarded, it was truly a
fun and exciting event. The long
distance award was given to a driver
from Iowa who traveled of over 1,200
miles to participate. The oldest
driver award was given to a
competitor who was 71 years old. The
winner of the wheelstand contest was
on the bumper and crossing lanes –
absolutely amazing! The poker hand
was won with a Royal Straight Flush.
There were two scavenger hunts for
some really silly, off-the-wall
items; and they were both won in
just a matter of minutes with racers
sprinting to the tower.
The racing was intense all day, with
spots even being won during time
trials. Congratulations to all of
those that left with a Golden Ticket
to the big show and a special thanks
to everyone who attended the event!
