Perfect racing weather greeted a great crowd of racers for the second stop on the 2012 AutoFab Race Cars Raider Challenge Series at Richmond Dragway. After nearly 730 runs on Saturday night, Severn, Maryland’s Brad Keyton took the top honors in Junior Dragster when Robert Estevez (Waldorf, MD) red lit. To top off his great event weekend, Keyton lasted through the whole event again on Sunday and laid claim to the Sunday race win by defeating AJ Jenkins (Mechanicsville, MD) in the finals. Keyton’s magical weekend was certainly a highlight of the annual pilgrimage to Richmond but he wasn’t the only star of the race.

In Top ET action, Winchester, VA’s Todd Welzel took the Top ET victory Saturday night as he watched runner up, Jeff Verdi (Glen Allen, VA) breakout in the finals. Verdi was driving his 66 Pontiac GTO in a dragster vs doorcar matchup. In coincidence, Sunday’s final was another dragster vs doorcar event pitting Wyatt Colbert (Mechanicsville, VA) against another 66 GTO this time of Glen Allen’s Ray Loan in the finals. Colbert used a better reaction time to take the class win.

Modified ET was a battle royale all weekend long. In Saturday’s action, former Raider Champion, Rocky Pintavalle (Amelia, VA) took out Ronnie Jeter (Manakin Sabot, VA) to win. It was a very close run with both drivers scoring nearly identical reaction times and then both running .01 over their dial. Sunday’s champion was Ed Talbert of Woodbine, MD who knocked out Upper Marlboro, MD’s Bart Spicer in a double breakout event.

“Congratulations to all of the great event winners and runner ups and thanks to everyone who supported this weekend’s AutoFab Raider Challenge” commented track owner, Johnny Davis. “This event is quickly becoming a favorite of Richmond’s race fans and my staff as we watch some of the best racing all season long play out over 2 exciting days. I can’t wait to watch this great series wrap up at MIR in September and October and celebrate with the 2012 series champions.”
