Just
one week after claiming a $5,000 to
win Top ET race at the Autofab
Raider ET Challenge, Brent Martin
proved it was no fluke winning his
second race in under a week at the
Speed Unlimited ET Series event
September 15th. The professional
golfer, who is taking some time off
to race with his family, is making
the most of his time away from the
course. Martin once again found his
groove late in the rounds, posting 3
“double oh” lights in the final 4
rounds of racing, including a
perfect .000. Brent picked up a
quarter-final win over the always
tough Tommy Cable. Cable and Martin
were both vying for the last spot on
the Bracket Finals team in Top. In
the semi’s, he put together a .010
package to take down MIR regular
Mickey Nelson. In the finals, he got
the starting line advantage over
Tommy Lago and was able to take the
stripe and take down Lago’s dead-on
run. Winning the event earned Martin
a spot on the Bracket Finals team
heading to Richmond Dragway at the
end of September.

In what is an even more impressive
showing, Junior Dragster brothers,
TJ and Robert Estevez have been
absolutely dominating recently. On
September 1st, Robert was Runner Up
in the Wildcard race, while TJ won
the normal Saturday race. A week
later, last weekend, older brother
TJ picked up the win in Saturday’s
Autofab Raider race with the younger
brother Robert getting the win in
Sunday’s race. On Saturday September
15th, both Estevez brothers were
making their way deep into
eliminations again. TJ picked up his
third win in just 3 weeks, beating a
red-lighting Logan Hubbell in the
finals of the Speed Unlimited ET
Series race. With the race win,
Hubbell would have qualified for the
Bracket Finals team. With the normal
Saturday race complete, it was time
to finally complete the Sunday race
from the $10K/$2K Poker Bash that
started back in August. Rain
postponed the race a couple of
times, but with clear weather this
past Saturday, the race could
finally be completed. Heading into
the semi-finals, both Estevez
brothers remained in competition. It
worked out they would not have to
race each other in the semi’s, so if
they could both win, it would
guarantee another Estevez win.
Robert was up first, and posted a
perfect .000 light to take down
Willy Hess Jr. TJ then got a small
starting line advantage over Hunter
Levin, but was able to make it
stick, forcing Levin to break out
taking the stripe. This set up an
Estevez brothers final, putting
Robert in his 3 finals in 3 weeks,
and TJ in his 4th. Younger brother
Robert prevailed in the family duel,
using a better light to hold off TJ
by .018 at the stripe. Six races in
3 weeks in Junior Dragster and one,
or both of the Estevez brothers have
been in the finals of all of them,
winning 5. To say they are hot may
be the biggest understatement of the
season.
Also, congratulations to David
Butler, the Mod ET winner from this
past Saturday’s race. The race win
qualified him for a spot on the
Bracket Finals team heading to
Richmond. Also, congrats to Shayne
Proctor for his win in Motorcycle.
Shayne has been making deep runs
recently, and may be peaking at the
right time with the Dash just a
couple of weeks away. Next up for
the bracket racers is the
Superchargers Showdown this weekend,
September 21-22, featuring $5,000 to
win each day in Top ET and the Speed
Unlimited ET Series in full effect
on Saturday. After that, Team MIR
will be heading to Richmond Dragway
to try and bring home yet another
Team Championship.
