Brent Martin Wins Rick’s Jewelers Ring for the Queen

July 1, 2013

Press Release courtesy of:  Robbie Parlett

Since 2005, bracket racers at MIR have had a huge incentive to setup tight on the tree and run dead-on their dial. For 9 years now, the Rick’s Jewelers Ring for the Queen program has given a diamond ring to the first MIR ET Series points member who collected 5 diamond points throughout the season. A diamond point is earned when a competitor has a perfect .000 light or runs dead-on their dial to the thousandth during eliminations or during a bogey run. This year, as in years past, a certified, one carat diamond solitaire ring, valued at $8,500 was up for grabs. With such tremendous continued support from Rick Norris of Rick’s Jewelers, MIR regulars get a rare shot of picking up a very cool and valuable prize for doing what all bracket racers try to do; be perfect on both ends of the track.

During second round of the Speed Unlimited ET Series event June 29, Brent Martin was perfect on the tree with a .000 light for the third time this year in an ET Series event. Those perfect lights coupled with two, dead-on 0 runs he made earlier in the season, made Brent the first person to reach the 5 diamond point total this year, fetching him the $8,500 ring for his efforts. For Brent, this is just the latest in what is a quickly growing list of accomplishments on the race track. Brent started racing junior dragsters at MIR, alongside his dad Marty, who ran in Top ET. When Brent was old enough to move up to the big cars, they added a second dragster to stable and Brent started racing in Top. Then the Martin family took some time off from racing as Brent went to college and began to pursue his dream of becoming a professional golfer. As Brent began accomplishing his goals on the golf course, he and his family started to make their way back to the track from time to time. And then last season, they came back more regularly, and Brent started winning.

Brent was able to qualify for the 2012 Bracket Finals team for team MIR by racing in just 5 races. Making deep runs in a few races, Brent regained his feel for racing and then started winning races. To close out his racing season, Brent won a Raider ET Series race at MIR for $5,000. He followed that up with an ET Series win the following week to get him on to the Bracket Finals team. At the Bracket Finals, he helped carry team MIR to a team win by winning the Top ET class, against the toughest competitors from all the IHRA Division 1 tracks. This year, he hasn’t really slowed down too much. After working through some engine troubles earlier in the season, Brent dropped in a new bullet from Nesbitt Performance in NC, and has steadily made deep runs into eliminations, race after race. He currently sits in the top 10 in all points series he chases, as he sits 9th in Top ET in the 1/8 mile series, 5th in the Raider ET Series, and 3rd in the mile series. Brent “works” in the Carolinas, playing in professional golf tournaments during the week, and then he drives back to MD to race with his dad and the rest of his family. For Brent, winning the Rick’s Jewelers Ring for the Queen was just the icing on the cake on a fantastic week. Brent won the professional mini tour event he was entered in earlier in the week.

In the history of the Ring for Queen Program at MIR, almost all winners of the ring have gone on to win the points championship that year. Will Brent continue the trend? As always, a big thank you goes out to Rick Norris of Rick’s Jewelers of California, MD. Not only does Rick support the bracket program with the Ring for the Queen, but he also offers up nice discounts with coupons on the back of MIR entry tickets. Without drag racing and bracket racing supporters like Rick, racing would be tough, so please support those who support the racers. Congratulations to Brent Martin, the 2013 Rick’s Jewelers Ring for the Queen winner!

Royce Miller, Promoter at MIR stated "The Rick's Jewelers Ring for the Queen program is one of the most unique and exciting bonus programs any track and/or sponsor has added to an ET program. I want to congratulate Brent on is accomplishment and thank Rick Norris for his continued support of MIR and the MIR ET racers."
