Mechanicsville, Maryland (August 12, 2016) – Saturday, August 13, Maryland International Raceway™ (MDIR) will host a double-header event as part of the 2016 Speed Unlimited ET Series in all four sportsman categories; Top ET, Mod ET, Motorcycle ET and Hubble Motorsports Jr. Dragster. With the season’s points chase winding down, the competition continues to heat-up as racers in all classes look to collect valuable points this weekend.
With tight points races all season long in 2016 and class championships looking to go right down to the last event of the year, the remaining events on the schedule will be crucial for all competitors looking to hoist the championship trophy at the end-of-the year racer’s banquet.
In Top ET, Robbie Parlett of Lusby, Maryland currently holds the points lead with his ’07 dragster with 340 points through August 7, 2016. Parlett furthered his efforts during the recent Top ET Quad 5K event at MDIR winning the second event of the weekend and going rounds in the other three races. Last year’s “Ring for the Queen” challenge winner; Mike Nelson Jr. of Valley Lee, Maryland is in close range with his ’81 Camaro with 330 points. Dustin Stocksdale of Ellicott City, Maryland is in third place currently with 301 points and Wesley Washington Jr. of King George, Virginian is in fourth with 300 points after collecting a Friday night win during the Quad 5K event. Jake Milstead, Jerry Langley, and Mickey Nelson are in a three-way tie for fifth with 290 points each.
In Mod ET, Joe Jones of Huntingtown, Maryland sits on top of the leader board with 231 points with his ’75 Vega. Mechanicsville, Maryland based Steve Cross Sr. sits in the number two spot with 210 points with his ’82 Capri. Tony Mattera of Waldorf, Maryland is in close range with his ’69 Nova with 200 points, while Bobby Rice of Callaway, Maryland and Mike Gardiner of Hughesville, Maryland round out the fourth and fifth spots with 190 and 171 points respectively.
Darrell Mahoney of Pomfret, Maryland maintains the lead heading into this weekend in Motorcycle ET with his ’08 Suzuki Mobile Lab Racing Team entry with 171 points. 2015 points champion Mike Schultz of Manassas Park, Virginia sits in a close second with 162 points. Shayne Proctor of Indian Head, Maryland is in third with 150 points and the WPGC “Paint the ¼ Pink” event winner Kelly Clontz of Hughesville, Maryland is in fourth with 140 points. Matt Dotson, Ricardo Alston, and Donald Handshaw are tied for fifth currently at 110 points. Several riders remain in striking distance from taking this year’s championship making the final stretch of the season one to keep an eye on.
Louie Estevez of White Plains, Maryland presently leads the Hubble Motorsports Jr. Dragster class with 320 points with Jacob Mattera of Mechanicsville, Maryland in second place with 281 points. Jordan Mason of Manassas, Virginia resides in third with 271 points along with Willy Hess Jr. of Hughesville, Maryland and Tyler Sandy of Merchantville, Maryland in the fourth and fifth spots with 251 and 250 points.
