Of the 4 X275 events held at Maryland International Raceway this season, they have all shared 1 common result. That result, is Townsend Delaware’s Ron Rhodes making a final round appearance. In a five race series Ron and his BES 23 degree Nitrous Small Block Chevrolet 68 Camaro, tallied up two event wins and two runner ups wrapping up the championship title with 1 more event remaining on the calendar. Rhodes has been stone cold consistent at MIR and is the only racer to log an E.T. in the 4.50’s at all 4 of this year’s events. At a venue where the drag radial based classes are referred to as “The Shark Tank” for its fierce competition, it goes without saying that bringing home a championship is no easy feat at MIR.
Throughout the season, Ron has relied on Induction Solutions Nitrous, Santhuff Shocks and Struts, Calvert Racing Suspension, TRZ Motorsports, PTC Converters and a Hutch’s Transmissions Power glide. Spaghetti Menders handles the wiring and electrical demands, while an NLR NMS-1000 Nitrous controller takes care of the power management duties. A trick set of MacFab bead locks grip the Mickey Thompson 275 Pro’s which Ron has turned to several incredible 1.05 passes to the 60’ mark.
The final X275 event of the season will be held at MIR’s Ford Fever Classic October 17th-19th as the new “Ford vs The World” format is unveiled pitting the world’s fastest X275 and ODR Ford’s against all of their arch rivals. MIR would like to congratulate Ron and the Rhodes Custom Auto team on their 2014 title, we are proud to have you represent Maryland International Raceway as a track champion!
